Hello, everyone from Pasadena City College. How is your day? We are students from 2^nd senior high school affiliated to Tong Ji University. Our presentation is about new energy resources. The presentation will takes 10 minutes. We will in brief.

So before we came into our topic , l would like to raise a question. As we all know the most widely used traditional energy is oil. Oil is not only be used as a kind of energy resource but also a kind of raw material of modern industry. For example, plastic gasoline and nylon are oil products.

It seems like oil and oil products works pretty good in our daily life. Then why are we cost so much money and resources to replace it? There is the fact that the total global oil is limited and oil is non-renewable resources. A report from China University of geosciences point out that ‘if we don’t explore new fields the proven oil could only support for about 54 years.’ Besides the dependence of using oil as energy resource will cause more problems such as air pollution and global warming. There are many kinds of new energy , they are Wind power generation ,Hydroelectric generation, Solar power , Biogas power generation, Tidal power and Nuclear power. From all those new energy resources our research ream choice Wind power , hydroelectric power , solar power and nuclear power to explore and introduce. Because all of those energy resources above, has been widely used in both China and America.

The first one is Wind power generation. The wind power generation use the force of wind to start the wind turbine to produce electricity. The wind turbine looks like a windmill but more than a hundred meters tall. Nowadays this kind of new energy resources has been widely used in Europe countries, China and North America.

The second is hydroelectric generation. Hydroelectric generation produce electricity is to use the power of falling water to drive the motor. Usually people build huge dams to store water to keeps the motor running round a clock. As you can see one the screen is one of the biggest hydroelectric power station The Three Gorges hydropower station located in China Sichuan province. By the way the Three Gorges is also a place of interest in China too. So next you plan your vocation please put it on your list.

Here we came into the solar power. There actually two different ways to use solar power.

The most normal way is to use solar panel. While the other one is concentrated solar energy. The concentrated solar energy use mirrors to concentrated heat of sunlight to heat the molten salt in the top of the center tower then produce steam to drive the turbine. And as you can see on the screen this is one of a concentrated solar power station located in China XingJang province.

The last but not lest is nuclear energy. The principle of nuclear reactor is use the energy released by nuclear reaction to boil water to produce steam, drive the turbine and crate electricity. There are two kinds of nuclear reaction. The nuclear fission release energy by the chain reaction of heavy element such as Uranium 238. On the other hand the nuclear fusion caused by fusion reaction of light element fusion to heaver element such as hydrogen fusion to helium. The reactor on the screen is called AP1000. The world first third generation nuclear reactor designed by Westinghouse company.

Well some of you may confuse about the safety problem of building a nuclear power plant. There were two seriously nuclear accident happened one is Chernobyl, Ukraine and the other one is Fukushima nuclear power plant in Japan. Both two accident are caused by the design of the reactor and improper operation of the staff. Especially the accident happened in Japan at first it was just a level 5 accident caused by earthquake but the improper handling lead to nuclear waste water was emissions to the Pacific. Made it a level 7 accident the same level as Chernobyl. With better design and proper management nuclear energy is a kind of safety new energy. Chernobyl should not be used as a reason for halting all nuclear reactors.

After the trip in America we’ve learned a lot about new energy.

We think that the solar energy is the most suitable for California. For it is more high efficient and stable than wind power.
